The heart is a muscular organ that consists mainly of
three layers which are endocardium, myocardium &
pericardium.i

i1- endocardium:i
It is the inner most layer that consists of:i

a. single layer of squamous endothelial cells.i

b. subendocardial layer of connective tissue.

i2- myocardium:i

The intermediate layer and the largest one that is
mainly composed of cardiac muscle cells.i

i3- pericardium:i

a.Visceral layer (epicardium): simple squamous epithelium
supported by a thin layer of connective tissue.i

i_ Between this layer & myocardium, there is the subepicardial
layer which is a connective tissue contains blood vessels &
nerves, also adipose tissue accumulate in this layer.

b. Parietal layer.i

Purkinje cells

One or two central nuclei *

Their cytoplasm rich in mitochondria *

Reduced number of myofibrils that present mainly in the *
periphery of the muscle cells

Liight area around the nuclei of the conducting cells caused *
by a local accumulation of glycogen
